Countless Blessings from God

Today’s reading from the Epistle of St. James ( 1:17-21) helps us focus on the fact that every good gift and every perfect gift comes from above, from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. We are all recipients of the countless blessings that God has bestowed upon us. Our lives, our families, our health, our talents, our jobs, our homes, and all the good things that we enjoy come from God. We must always remember to thank God for his goodness and generosity towards us.

However, St. James also reminds us that we must be “doers of the word” and not hearers only. It is not enough to simply listen to God’s word and feel good about it. We must put it into action in our lives. We must be obedient to God’s commandments (John 14:15-24) and live our lives in accordance with His will. We must be vigilant and guard against the temptations of the world that seek to lead us away from God. (James 4:4-8)

James warns us that anger does not produce righteousness. We must be slow to anger and quick to listen, for the anger of man does not accomplish the righteousness of God. We must be patient and forgiving towards one another, just as God is patient and forgiving towards us.

Furthermore, James reminds us that we must rid ourselves of all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save our souls. We must cleanse ourselves of all sinful thoughts and actions and open ourselves to the transforming power of God’s Word. We must be humble and meek, acknowledging our weaknesses and limitations, and allowing God to work in us and through us.

As we reflect on today’s reading, let us give thanks to God for His goodness and generosity towards us. Let us be doers of the Word and not hearers only. Let us be slow to anger and quick to listen. Let us rid ourselves of all filthiness and receive with meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save our souls. May God grant us the grace to live our lives in accordance with His will and to grow in faith, hope, and love. Amen.

God bless you +
