The Apostle Jude does not suggest that God’s love is uncertain or that His favour must be earned through human effort. Rather, he exhorts the faithful to remain within the life that has been freely given to them through Christ, not wandering from the path of salvation through sin, false teaching, or spiritual neglect. The Christian life is a continual participation in the life of God. Through prayer, the reading of Holy Scriptures, faithful participation in the Holy Mysteries, and a life of repentance, we open our hearts ever more fully to the grace that the Lord so generously bestows. As we remain close to Him, we experience the peace, strength, and consolation that flow from His abiding presence, even amidst the trials and uncertainties of this present age.

In our Lord Jesus Christ we have been reconciled to the Father and invited into a communion that transforms the whole person. Through His saving Passion, Death, Resurrection, and glorious Ascension, He has restored what was lost through sin and has made us partakers of the divine life. The Holy Spirit dwells within the Church and within every faithful believer, enlightening the mind, purifying the heart, strengthening the will, and guiding us along the path of holiness. As we abide in Christ, His grace gradually conforms us to His likeness. Our desires become increasingly directed towards the things of God, our thoughts are shaped by the truth of the Gospel, and our lives begin to reflect the humility, compassion, patience, forgiveness, and sacrificial love that our Saviour has revealed. This growth in holiness is not accomplished in a single moment but throughout the whole course of the Christian life, as we faithfully cooperate with the grace that God continually provides.

The spiritual life requires both vigilance and perseverance. The Fathers of the Church frequently remind us to guard the heart, for it is there that the spiritual battle is often won or lost. Worldly distractions, sinful passions, pride, discouragement, and spiritual complacency all threaten to weaken our communion with the Lord if they are left unchecked. For this reason, the Church continually calls her faithful to watchfulness, repentance, fasting, prayer, and works of mercy. These are not burdens imposed upon us but gifts that help to heal the soul and preserve us in the love of Christ. As we keep our eyes fixed upon Him, trusting not in our own strength but in His unfailing mercy, He strengthens our faith, grants us perseverance, and enables us to remain faithful throughout every season of life.

Jude concludes his exhortation by directing our gaze towards the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. We do not live merely for the present moment but in joyful expectation of the age to come, when Christ shall appear in glory and bring to fulfilment the salvation He has promised. This hope strengthens us to endure suffering, resist temptation, and continue faithfully in the life of the Church.

May each of us strive to remain in the love of God, faithfully embracing the life of prayer, repentance, and holiness, rejoicing in the certainty that the Lord who has called us is faithful. As we abide in Him and persevere in His grace, we await with confidence the abundant mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we shall inherit everlasting life.

May God bless you +

Fr.
